The Bildmuseet is one of Sweden's leading art halls for international contemporary art and the public heart of the Artistic campus.
Across seven floors with striking architecture, we allow art and science to meet around the pressing issues of our time. Are you passionate about art and human interaction? We are now seeking curatorial assistants for employment during the period of August 11, 2025 - June 7, 2026.
Main Responsibilities
As a curatorial assistant, you will engage with Bildmuseet's visitors – in the reception, the image workshop, or in the exhibitions. You will manage the museum shop, answer questions, provide information about exhibitions and programs, and conduct guided tours for groups in both Swedish and English. In our creative workshop, where we draw from themes and techniques in Bildmuseet's ongoing exhibitions, you will offer creative activities to our visitors – families, youth, and adults. Your responsibilities will also include overseeing ongoing exhibitions and performing alarm and security routines in the building. Additionally, you will create and publish posts on Bildmuseet's social media. Other tasks within the organization may also arise.
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a curatorial assistant, you must be enrolled in a degree program at the undergraduate or graduate level, according to Chapter 5, Section 10 of the Higher Education Ordinance. The employment must be carried out in parallel with your studies. Proof of registration from Ladok showing enrollment in undergraduate or graduate studies for the autumn semester of 2025 and the spring semester of 2026 must be presented no later than at the time the employment decision is made.
We are looking for someone who is pursuing higher education in fields related to art, architecture, pedagogy, design, culture, or museology. You should have knowledge of and interest in contemporary art and visual culture, as well as experience working with people in service, care, education, or similar fields. As a person, you are ambitious, flexible, and have good collaborative skills. You are also service-oriented, pedagogical, and can express yourself well verbally in both Swedish and English. A high degree of personal maturity is also a requirement for the position.
Desirable Qualifications
It is advantageous if you have:
- experience working with children and youth
- experience with various artistic techniques
- experience in hosting or educational work at an art institution
- experience in conducting guided tours
Additional Information
We are seeking 13 curatorial assistants. The employment covers 9-13% during the period of 250811-260607. The work is scheduled on weekends. The position is based in Umeå. The holder of the position must be a student throughout the entire employment period.

Salary is regulated according to Umeå University's local collective agreement.
